Whole School Theme Days/Weeks

Throughout the year, themed days/weeks are woven into the curriculum to extend the breadth and balance of opportunities we offer our pupils. These include, Anti-bullying Week including Odd Socks Day and Internet Safety Week, World Book Day, Science Week, Earth Day and others.  

Educational Visits and Residentials

School trips and visits are an integral part of the education of children at Bubwith Primary.  We value the opportunities such visits offer our pupils and the commitment of staff and adults undertaking them.  Trips include class visits aimed at bringing learning alive and providing first-hand experience; extra-curricular outings such as activities with the school choir or sporting events; and attending or taking part in performances or competitions. 

Children in Years 5 and 6 take part in a residential visit. This is planned to provide new and exciting experiences. We take the pupils to the Peat Rigg Outdoor Learning Centre where they can experience activities which we cannot typically provide at school.

Visitors into School

Visitors have a valuable role to play and can contribute to many aspects of the life and work of the school.  They deliver talks, workshops and full day activities across a range of subjects, giving pupils access to outside experiences and expertise. Visitors provide a link with the wider community – children have recently had the opportunity to work alongside artists, historians, authors, health professionals and others.

After-school Club: Fit for fun

We offer a free after school sporting opportunity for pupils provided by our Fit4Fun coaches.  The club has a different focus each half term and we aim it at different age ranges too so that as many pupils as possible are given an opportunity to participate.

PE & Sport

At Bubwith Primary we are using our PE & Sport Premium to part-fund qualified sports coaches.  Mrs Lynskey who is already known to many pupils across the school, and coach Joe Tully from Fit for Fun.  Both provide high quality instruction during PE lessons on a Friday (Mrs Lynskey) and on a Tuesday (Joe Tully); they both also run sporting activities at lunchtimes. 

Music, Art & Drama

Bubwith Primary School provides opportunities for children to take part in a wide range of musical activities and performances where they are encouraged to sing, compose and work creatively with sound. Through active listening, pupils’ awareness, understanding and appreciation of a wide variety of music are developed. A range of opportunities are provided within and beyond the curriculum for children to showcase their musical, artistic and dramatical skills and talents, for example Harvest Festivals, Christmas Celebrations, School Performances and attending the Big Sing all help to achieve this.  Mrs Jefford provides a choir on a Friday lunchtume too. Our annual visit to the Junction theatre for the traditional pantomime further enriches pupils’ cultural development.

Assemblies

A rounded programme of daily assemblies helps to promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, and provide clear guidance on what is right and what is wrong. Once a month, assemblies are led by a member of our local clergy and the Open the Book bible story team. On a Friday an Assembly of Celebration is held providing a showcase for pupils’ individual achievements beyond the school gates.
