‘Reading for pleasure is the single most important indicator of a child’s success.’ (OECD 2002) ‘The will influences the skill and vice versa.’ (OECD 2010)

At Bubwith Community Primary School we value reading for pleasure and work hard as a school to develop a love of reading in our children.

• We read to the children everyday, using carefully selected books to ensure the children are exposed to a wide range of books.
• All classes take part in a weekly book club, during which the children have the opportunity to recommend favourite reads to their friends and explore different types of texts. During this time classes also visit the library and take part in shared reading with children from other classes.
• All classes have a book corner containing high quality books which are refreshed regularly and are based on children’s interests or current themes in classes.
• We have a monthly reading competition in which the children have different activities to do based on books they are enjoying.
• In KS1 each week a child is chosen to take home the story time bag which contains a book to unwrap and enjoy with their family.
